# Preferences

> Tell the scheduling search what kind of proceedings work suits you.

Preferences is where you say whether you'll take remote work, in-person work, or both, and how far you'll drive for it. Open your profile from your picture in the top-right corner and pick the Preferences tab.

The tab only exists if you take proceedings work — court reporting, videography or interpreting. Typists and editors don't have it.

## Setting them

Everything lives on one Proceeding Preferences card.

Turn on Remote Proceedings, In-Person Proceedings, or both. A hybrid proceeding — one with people in the room and people dialling in — only matches you if both are on.

Switching on in-person reveals Maximum Travel Distance. Drag the slider or type into the box beside it; the slider runs to 200 miles, and the box will take a larger number if you want one. The distance is measured from the mailing address on your [Account tab](/team-adF2334soP/account/profile), not from wherever you happen to be that week.

If you interpret, a language list appears below. Add a row per language, and tick Registered or Certified where that applies to you. You can't add the same language twice.

Click Save when you're done, or Reset to drop your edits and go back to what's stored.

## What these settings actually do

They shape one thing: the search staff run when they need to find someone for a job. That search takes the job's location type, keeps only the workers whose matching switch is on, and — for in-person and hybrid jobs — drops anyone whose mailing address is further from the deposition than the travel distance they set. Remote jobs skip the distance check entirely. For an interpreter role it also drops anyone who doesn't have the required language, or the registration or certification the job asks for.

<Info>
  That search isn't the only way work reaches you. Staff can also assign you to a job outright, or send you an assignment request by picking you from the full list of workers who do your service. Neither path reads these settings. Turning both switches off narrows the search you show up in — it doesn't put a wall around your calendar.
</Info>

If in-person work isn't reaching you, check the address on your Account tab before you touch anything here. An address the system couldn't map has no coordinates, and no coordinates means no distance, which means you're skipped from every in-person search regardless of what you've set.

To block out specific dates rather than a whole category of work, use [Availability](/team-adF2334soP/account/availability).
